Colt Diamondback 22 Serial Numbers

Naturally, it would be safe to assume that if your serial comes after the last in this list, yours is between 1979 and 1986.

Also he has a semi auto.22 handgun that i think is colt too. It looks like a ruger mark III but is about the same age as the diamondback. Any ideas what this is? Best Answer: The Colt Diamondback revolver was made as a.38 caliber and a.22 caliber handgun.
It was available with barrel lengths of 2.5, 4, and 6 inches. It had the Colt Royal Blue finish. The gun was made from 1966 to 1988. The Diamondback was the 'little brother' of the Colt Python,.357 magnum. These revolvers are considered premium guns.
They are well made examples of gun making art. The gun demands high prices because they are a bit hard to find, they are exceptionally well thought of guns, and they are beautiful. Values do tend to reach silly heights. Sometimes the gun is a rare variant, such as the 2.5 inch barrel.
Or perhaps it is engraved by the factory. Or, sometimes, the gun was owned by some famous person.
Check the serial number of the Colt. If it begins with the letter 'D', then it was made between 1966 and 1976; the letter 'N', 1976 & 1977; the letter 'R', 1978; and the letter 'S', 1979. Let me know what the number is, I can probably tell you the year of manufacture then. As to the other gun, the colt semi auto, it might be a Colt Woodsman. These were made from 1915 to 1977. Oh, a final thought.. While the Diamondback will chamber and even fire the.22 Short, that is a bad idea. The short has to make a long jump from the cartridge case to the forcing cone of the barrel. Two bad things happen, one - you wind up with a filthy chamber, and two - you can damage the forcing cone. That will effect the accuracy of the gun and diminish its value.
