I am working on my CCENT. I purchased 4 devices from a company and I am having some difficulty accessing the console. I have the cisco console cable, I have a serial to usb adapter (tera grand, ftdi chipset) that is compatible with windows 10.

Running Windows 7 64-bit and the USB driver install is failing. Well, the setup program runs ok and reboots, but when I connect to a USB console, it installs the Console driver ok but fails on 'Cisco Virtual Comm Port00'. Jun 5, 2015 - Use Cisco USB Console Cable on Mac OSX. Just plug it in and the Mac detects it without the need for drivers, if you want to find out what.

And I am using putty. I have attempt several times to connect using the correct comm port and settings (9600, 1, n, n). If I connect to the device and then power on the switch (cisco catalys 2960) I will see gibberish on the screen. If I close and reopen putty, all I have is a black screen with green cursor. There is no reaction to any keystrokes pressed. I started to think maybe the IOS is corrupted, but I am unable to download IOS from cisco as i do not have a business email address.

I can’t imagine anyone changing the default baud rate. Putty defaults to the correct rate as well. Plug in you cable Device manager to find correct port Choose serial on putty Type com(port number) ex. Com4 Sometimes I have to move the Usb cable to another port on my laptop but that’s probably because I’m hard on my laptop. If you are studying for your ccent, spend more time with test questions and use the Cisco packet tracer tool.

You can build and simulate an entire network. It also let’s go you frame by frame and watch what the devices will do. Amazing tool.

Cisco offers it for free. PM me if you have any questions.

Text Is there a way to just factory reset the switch? I saw someone just hold the mode button down for a minute then he said it was factory reset. The factory reset process relies on an administrator having access to the command line and entering two commands.

The reset button is risky. I have seen it delete the IOS so that the only thing left is the boot-loader. If this happens and you don't have a switch IOS to hand then you'll need to get hold of one and upload it using X-Modem. Also the Mode button can be disabled.

I do this as a matter of course to prevent non-admins trying to reset the switch by pressing the button. And by non-admins I mean any amateur who thinks they know how to do it because they do the same thing on their internet router and 'it always fixes it'. With regards to bricking a Cisco device, they are pretty hard to brick beyond recovery BUT. Recovery requires having the correct firmware to hand and unless they have been copied/saved for this very issue, they aren't free. A valid Cisco service contract is usually required. A valid Cisco service contract is usually required. Agree - the only time I have not been able to enter rommon mode is when the hardware itself was faulty - think it was a ten year old 881 router. Full hd movie hindi dubbed harry potter 4 torrent.

The only prob with rommon and putty is sending the break signal (I am usually accessing remotely and cant just press the local break keys. ) If you cant get into rommon, something is seriously wrong that needs debugging by someone who knows what they are doing.
